No Christmas lights in Breage in 2020

Due to the second lockdown, there were no Christmas lights around the village. As a consequence, the usual December Friends event, when the church is open for mince pies etc. after the lights switch on, did not take place.

Friends May 2020 event postponed

We had hoped to celebrate five years of the Friends of St Breaca Church in May 2020 with a formal opening of the Heritage Centre, but the coronavirus pandemic means we must wait.

Penzance Orpheus Ladies Choir concert in aid of Friends

A good audience enjoyed a lovely concert by the Penzance Orpheus Ladies Choir on 15 August 2018. The money raised will go towards the pinnacle repairs now under way.

Pinnacles not as bad as first feared

The pinnacles are unlikely to go anywhere, because the metal rods supporting them are all OK. The problem is that the pointing has crumbled, causing the pinnacles to lean. This has been raked out, and the pinnacles will be wedged upright and repointed.

Friends 4th Anniversary Event: Wednesday 22 May 2019

Almost 100 people enjoyed Prof. Michelle Brown’s fascinating and stimulating talk about the heritage of Breage Church, in which she outlined the vision for the new Heritage Centre at the church and encouraged us all to get involved.

Pinnacle repairs complete!

The scaffolding has been removed and the renovated tower can be seen in all its glory. The pinnacles are now vertical, and should remain so for many years to come.

Cornwall Historic Churches Trust make grant towards pinnacles project

We are grateful to the Cornwall Historic Churches Trust for a grant of £5,000 towards the cost of repairing the pinnacles.

Wolfson Foundation makes grant towards pinnacles project

We are grateful to the Wolfson Foundation Trustees who have decided to offer a grant award of up to £5,000 towards the cost of repairs to the pinnacles.

Friends’ Summer Concert: Cadgwith Singers AND Celtic Fiddlers

Church was packed for our summer concert featuring two leading local music groups. This took place in church on Wednesday 21 August 2019, and a good time was had by all. Donations and raffle proceeds came to over £400 for the Friends.

Friends 3rd Anniversary Event: Sue Sayer on Cornish Seals

We celebrated the 3rd anniversary of the Friends of St Breaca Church with an illustrated talk by Sue Sayer of the Cornwall Seal Group in Breage Village Hall on 17 May 2018. Sue entertained us with fascinating facts and touching stories about Cornish seals.
