Pinnacles appeal launched at October event

Martin Matthews, the well-known local historian, gave a very well received illustrated talk on Breage parish in church on 11 October 2017. This event also saw the launch of an appeal to raise the additional funds needed for the pinnacles repairs.

We are pleased to welcome the Four Lanes Male Choir to the church on Wednesday 17th August at 7.30 p.m. Entry is free and refreshments will be available. There will also be a raffle. Donations on the evening to Breage Church Friends

Friends summer concert with the Richmond Singers & Falmouth Glee Singers

Despite the cold, wet and generally miserable summer's evening, a good audience turned out to enjoy an evening of musical entertainment by the Richmond Singers and the Falmouth Glee Singers, in church on Wednesday 16 August 2017.

Friends pay for clock repair

Many villagers are relieved to see (and hear!) that the church clock is working once again, having been out of action for quite some time. A seized bearing in the autowinding unit had to be replaced, and the Friends have paid for the repair.

Friends 2nd Anniversary event: John Strike on Shipwrecks

John Strike entertained us in Breage Village Hall on 11 May 2017 with his collection of magic lantern slides of Cornish shipwrecks and other things of local interest. We enjoyed pasties in the interval, and a good time was had by all.

The pinnacles: our next project!

The Heritage Lottery Fund has awarded £16,500 to develop a project to stabilise our pinnacles. We also need to raise more funds, and write a heritage activity plan. All being well, a further grant of £180,000 will part-fund the repair work itself in 2018.

Roof project completed

The final stage of the roof repair project, which fixed a leaky porch roof, is now complete. We are grateful to the Government's Listed Places Of Worship Roof Repair Fund for the grant of £48,900 that covered more than 90% of the project costs.

Friends give £1,500 for restoration work

The Friends have given just over £1,500 of money raised since the launch in May 2015 towards recent restoration work on the church. This supported repointing work on the north wall, necessary to protect the medieval wall paintings on the interior wall.

Conserving the wall paintings: stage 1

Before conservation work could start, we had to stop water getting through the wall behind them. This work was carried out in parallel with the roof repair project, part-funded by grants of £2,500 from Allchurches Trust Ltd and £1,500 from The Friends.

Friends summer concert with the Cadgwith Singers

The Friends of St Breaca Church held a concert in church on the evening of Saturday 13 August 2016. About 80 people came and enjoyed a wonderful performance by the Cadgwith Singers, and almost £300 was raised.
